I tend to find his reviews groanworthy, since he puts so much effort into setting up his jokes at the expense of actually writing about the film.

The fat joke is wrong, of course, but Ebert, while a wonderfully lucid writer and interesting guy, wasn't much of a critic. He spent the majority of his career trying to play the avuncular moralist, often missing the point.
