There is very obviously a folk definition of racism dealing mainly with interpersonal bigotry. The fact that this word is also used to describe a system of oppression is the issue. It’s really not that hard to understand why this leads to issues online.

Most people don't use the word racism that way (systematic ideology?). And Bouie meant something MUCH more specific than"racism", he eventually defined it down to "scientific racism that laid groundwork for colonialism, with white people at the top".
