there's a lot of assertions in this book that class struggle is universal, and not as individualistic as identity politics. but I don't really see why I should believe that.

and there's no engagement with the way in which Marxist claims to universalism have concretely led to fairly catastrophic outcomes for people not considered part of the universal (like, Polish people, or Ukrainians, or Jews.)

one thing theory is used to do though, sometimes, is to demonstrate that real intellectuals understand that your resistance efforts are actually what's oppressing you. This is not so great.

Wyndham Lewis made that argument in 1920s (in various books: Art of Being Ruled, Paleface, Doom of Youth, etc.)
