Fun fact: some people have an internal narrative and some don't As in, some people's thoughts are like sentences they "hear", and some people just have abstract non-verbal thoughts, and have to consciously verbalize them And most people aren't aware of the other type of person

also have antaphantasia, i thought it was a metaphor for the longest time as well. wasn't until i read a book when i was younger where they were explaining "mental images" when i was like oh this is REAL?

I'm (late dx) Autistic who thinks (almost) in pictures & I wasn't able to 'read' until someone said 'imagine the words as pictures'
it's so weird how for (majority) of us, metaphors 'saves' by being taken *literally* &/or becoming a 'symptom' of something

I never knew about antaphasia until I saw this ANIMATOR'S video about it. Incredible.https://youtu.be/ewsGmhAjjjI

My wife has the opposite - hyperphantasia - because this is paired with anxiety it means that if she hears about a tragedy she can never not see it happening again and again in her mind forever - I think it's quite tiring!

I'm not sure if I have aphantasia or I'm just overrating how much can people "see" in their heads
-

You mean people close their eyes and "see" things? Like a dream? I don't even understand how that would work ... ~confused~
-
It’s like a dream in your head, but it can happen even when your eyes are open. In fact it normally does. I have like what I’m actually looking at but can see something separate like... in my mind.

I started thinking last year that I'm like this, too. I'm not sure, though. I don't know how vividly people are supposed to see images they picture, and I'm not sure that the vague impression I get when I try is even an image. Guess I should have some similar conversations!

Imagine you've got a transparent overlay on your glasses, that you only see if you focus your eyes a certain way. Except in this case for "focus" it's more like "turn off present awareness and go into semi-sleep." So it's this blurry, hazy, hiccuping dream-wash over reality.
