It's looking like my National Guard unit will be called up. I don't want to fight against the protesters. I don't want to appear to be against them. I am not. I don't know what to do.

Not sure how much it applies, but from my experience in our military (not US) we sometimes deployed to help local police control riots, and the best thing you can do is keep as calm and collected as possible. A level head often keeps those around you cool and helps deescalate
