I’ve been quieter on the #Starlink launches this time because it doesn’t really seem like there’s anything that astronomy/astronomers can do. If the world wants cheaper internet more than they want the night sky, then we’ve already lost.
How is Starlink different from any of the other commercial entities already operating in space? From telecom to imaging, etc.

That’s the weakest aspect of the argument. But Starlink is different, in sheer numbers, visibility of objects, and number of orbital planes. There has been nothing like it before.

It’s easily said on the part of astronomers “why object to these objects, and why now?” Artificial satellites have been up for 60+ years, and have been a problem for ground-based observing all along. But Starlink is a very different thing than what has preceded it.
