That's true but it doesn't really explain it. If I say I Hoovered my carpet you're no worse off. If your answer to how you found something or solved an issue is "I Googled it" that clarifies nothing. We understand internet search by now, nobody thought you looked behind the couch

I don’t know if people widely use the phrase as a clarifier though. It’s more often just shorthand for “I’m not familiar with this problem so I used the internet to find a solution”. I guess if you’re frustrated by it you can follow up by asking what they learned from the search?
