To the white dudes getting angry at someone who pointed out, 9+ months ago, that the temporary, IAU naming convention breaching, public vote losing name for a solar system object has Nazi and modern day white supremacist connotations.......just STOP. Be smarter than that.

It's long past time to reclaim our mythologies and ancient traditions from modern fascists and terrorists. (I'm including ISIS and swastikas in that thought, too.)

There are 6 names the public voted for more than this, several of which were perfectly meritorious. There are thousands of other names from the panoply of ancient mythologies that DON'T have negative connotations.

If for some reason, language runs out of any and all other possible names for things that have not espoused by genocidal maniacs within living memory....then maybe this is a discussion worth having. Until that time - we should do better.

That literally doesn't matter because history is real and it happened and you can't just ignore it. The swastika has Nazi connotations. Period. Doesn't matter what it used to mean in the past, right now it's directly connected to the absolute worst people in living memory.
