“Hi, I’m Jane.” I wouldn’t call them “Steve.” It’s not their name, and would be a dick move. So why the heck wouldn’t I call someone he, she, they, zhe, xe, etc? It takes ZERO effort, and is respectful. I only need one reason: it’s what they ASKED to be called.
I see this all the time with my daughter as well. She has a name which in some areas is generally a boy's name so some people just call her by the girl's version. It's pretty crazy..
