My first article on the crim justice system. It's a sad case involving a family's struggle w their son's mental illness & how it's exacerbated by DA prosecuting it criminally. It's the kind of case a progressive prosecutor would have resolved differently.

This advice doesn't just apply to students. It goes for anyone accused under TIX. That includes faculty & staff too because they face the same lack of information, rights, and denial of due process as students. Finding a competent TIX lawyer is essential for justice!

Today we announced a formal policy ending the use of money bail by our prosecutors as a condition for pretrial detention. From this point forward, pretrial detention will be based on public safety, not on wealth.

The prosecutor agreed on a restorative justice inspired resolution for my 18 year old African American client with NO record. However, the judge REFUSED to take the plea bc it didn’t include prison. Having a progressive prosecutor is not enough. We need reform on ALL levels!!!

Had drinks w/a prosecutor friend & got into an argument over the meaning of “justice”. When I lamented how our system isn’t helping folks, he told me that’s not what the system is for. Proceeded to chide me on my situation-centric view. This is why we need progressive prosecutors

Defendants who believe they are innocent take plea deals every.single. day because they are afraid to take the risk of trial and jail time.Trial is a massive gamble when a plea deal gives you certainty. Not excusing the President’s antics, but let’s not conflate the reality here.

Now, let’s get conviction integrity units in every district attorney’s office in the USA! Working together we are so much more effective in finding and freeing the innocent.

Why Did San Francisco's New District Attorney Fire Seven Prosecutors? Because they needed to go. Linda Allen committed egregious misconduct to falsely convict . She still says he’s guilty. Allen should’ve been fired years ago.

If we're serious about criminal justice reform we have to elect more public defenders as judges! in SF Superior Court!

Touches my heart when people ask me how they can help the campaign. Aside from your SF vote and donation, you can spread the word by emailing everyone you know because they know a SF voter; invite them to put up a…

Over 30 years, the number of people detained in local jails under federal gov't contracts grew 10X. In 2018, agencies spent $1.3B to hold people in jails in rural areas & small cities. In areas in IA, this revenue is an incentive to expand their jails.

I believe that false allegations of a sexual nature needs to be addressed at grass roots level in schools (sex ed) in an attempt to stop the rot. Boys & girls severe consequences of a false allegations and boys how to protect themselves with evidence ie keeping msgs etc etc

Do you know what drove me in ? When people told me I would get out and not amount to a hill of s***. It drove me and made me even more determined to make it out here. Digest that pain and let it drive you to success.

For those who may never be getting out of prison, you can still use your time wisely and help others (especially the younger generation) so they do not make the same choices. Be a force, help others...you are not worthless. Help others. THAT is how you "beat" the system.

When my accuser's lies became obvious even to idiots, I wanted her charged. The sergeant said police couldn't just turn around and charge someone who'd put her trust in them. Astonishing! How else can charges of any kind ever be brought?

Jackie Lacey talks about diverting the mentally ill, but the actions of her deputies don’t match her rhetoric. In this op-Ed - I break down why her current policies are little more than convenient politics.
