    Heather E Heying Retweeted MAA

If you truly believe that math is created by humans, you have no business in math. The ways that we *describe* math are, no doubt, a social construct, but math itself is the discovery of underlying reality.https://twitter.com/maanow/status/1312377160938774528 …

"It is time for all members of our profession to acknowledge that mathematics is created by humans and therefore inherently carries human biases. Until this occurs, our community and our students cannot reach full potential." -CMPM #MathValues http://bit.ly/3l86j2p

The amount of intellectual hubris in the hard social constructionist stance is really stunning.

this is a deep philosophical debate going back centuries, it's absolutely ridiculous to say "if you truly believe math is created by humans, you have no business in math." just ignorant

Math is a language that was created like most languages, to represent and model reality. The map is not the territory. Humans did not dig up math or find it growing on a plant somewhere. Disclaimer: I don't agree with @maanow on spirit of their tweet.

Math is a language created by humans to describe nature. Unlike gravity, bird migrations, and COVID, I don't think math exists without us. How am I wrong?
