“The urgent question we face in this moment is why half the population...refuses to believe the millions of women who say sexual harassment and assault shape our lives, and are maintaining our inequality.” Written as if “A, therefore B.” Wrong. 1/3https://medium.com/@schemaly/why-dont-good-men-believe-women-23be0ce607c9?source=linkShare-4bc221cd62fc-1539920976 …

So I have a cognitive disconnect that hopefully can be clarified. 2. Claims seem to be vague....at least in my own mind of harassment/assault. Is catcalling included in these claims? Are they proximity claims? Touching claims? Rape? So I also have an empathy disconnect.
-
Re the cognitive disconnect: Most women are harrassed at some point, or at many points. Few women are actually assaulted. I think that most women don’t talk about these experiences widely—until now—but that doesn’t mean they don’t happen. 1/2
-
Re the empathy disconnect: I get it. It is true that being ogled, catcalled, propositioned, even sometimes touched, is (or at least was, in the 80s & 90s) practically background noise for walking around the world as a young woman. But how many of those things are harassment? 2/2

Heather, you always deliver with balance, grace and respect. In this age of values-based, overreaching, demand-based narratives, you consistently hit the bull’s-eye. You have my admiration.

Thank you!

The author also uses one survey result about one specific, politically charged case, one “study” of the NYT comments section, and a third study that might be legit but is behind a $36 paywall, to make this broad “50% of the population doesn’t believe any woman ever” assertion.

The puzzling thing to me are the men, like the bald guy here that don't have the integrity to say 'Let's pump the breaks here and not make a special exception in jurisprudence for 1 type of crime/accusation '

I believe 1:2 women are sexually harassed or assulted ONLY if the first is defined very broadly. I also would love to hear what the “rape Myths” are. Study is behind fire wall. And third, what proof that men buying guns is a symptom of ID crisis?

It's somewhat rhetorical, is it not? Because it is actually "power", systemic power, perceived to be wielded by males, that does not recognize the problem of male violence. And there should be no question that the problem of male violence is no where near being resolved.

Replace "men" with "Jews" and "violence" with "greed" to see the true thrust of this argument.
