There is talk in liberal quarters of people—straight white men, mostly—working to preserve their unearned privilege. And it is true that being born into a phenotype that has historically held power constitutes unearned privilege. We all have some, some more than others. However:

You know who else is preserving their unearned privilege? Grievance Studies scholars.
#SokalSquared revealed the shoddy “scholarship” in these fields, and yet these departments and faculty are flourishing.https://areomagazine.com/2018/10/02/academic-grievance-studies-and-the-corruption-of-scholarship/ …8 replies 57 retweets 332 likesShow this thread -
Earning salary while indoctrinating students with untestable ideas? Unearned privilege. Writing up your “lived experience” and claiming it as scholarship? Unearned privilege.

As someone working his ass off to publish real work, I take incredible offense at the fact that some people get to be called "Dr." simply by publishing autoethnographic drivel. It's farcical and brings shame to the academy.

Oh. Well, I call "fail" on "trying to be clever." Just like we were never chimps (although our Most Recent Common Ancestor with chimps was probably more chimp-like than human-like), ducks were never crocs, and vice versa. Transitional forms won't look like they expect.

Thank you for the clarification / education though. I often miss the more egregious abuses/misunderstandings of evolution in pop culture. It makes me want to tear my hair out. Which, if I were a bird, would be feathers. Which doesn't mean that angry birds tear their feathers out.
