      “Theory” in Grievance Studies tends to be untestable gobbledygook, so I agree with you re: that use of the word. “Theory” in science, however, refers to a hypothesis that has been tested often, and never (yet) falsified, such that it has come to be accepted as true. 1/2

      The distinction between “empirical” and “theoretical” approaches to a question, though, is an important one. Neither is more authentic than the other, if both have at their base a testable hypothesis. 2/2
