Poor pediatricians. The whole COVID-19/azithromycin thing is going to make it 100-fold more difficult to explain why you won’t prescribe abx for viruses in the future.

Especially considering it doesn’t work in the first place. ☹️

We always seem to be the ones to deal with brunt of poor research studies.

I’ve never felt “just a virus” is acceptable. HIV / AIDS is also just a virus. Med profs need to use better words. (Some parents will still be assholes ).

(from med student speaking to COVID+pt families) to help these families, I've been analogizing to COPD for adults and for CF/lung transplants, how its used as an anti-inflammatory agent. The evidence is not fully there but its the easiest way to convey it from my anecdata!

Many parents are still going to want abx for every virus henceforth. Even more than they did before.

Interesting point, we always tell our patients that antibiotics shouldn't be given for viral infections. Plus we still don't know if hydroxychloroquine +\- Azithromycin are effective for treatment of #COVID19, Anxiously awaiting RCTs. #COVID19RX

My grandmother had a doctor in the early 60s who wouldnt prescribe antibiotics for her kids the way all her friends' doctors would. She remembers being so frustrated at the time, but appreciates him so much now.
