W/o control over how their is used, ppl will resort to workarounds, which leads to bad data, which creates potential for pt harm &stalls goals/R&D. Partic as we evaluate use of AI/ML in health care, consider that providing individuals with control benefits the greater good.

It doesn’t matter what the reason is, patients have the right to view the information in their medical records. Full stop. Delaying the delivery of that information is the world we are in now. Every org varies by the # of days they delay access to the info. No national standard.

Patients experience anxiety when we don’t get test results. We have cardiac hiccups all the time. So many patients are on anti-anxiety / antidepressants. We live in fear of our devices. Education and test results would help us cope.

Indeed, consumers are not dumb. But anyone supporting ONC rules (which includes me) needs to put their money where their mouth is. i.e. Support new health privacy laws beyond HIPAA. Big Tech will continue to abuse consumer privacy & rights. 🙏

Patients & carepartners have WAYYYY more important things to do besides making a laundry list of phone calls over & over to confirm if their medical records request was received. Join me as we if you're over phone ping pong too.

Note though that has a lot of rules, not just keeping data private. It also includes a right to *access*, and I dunno what state regs say about this. btw, here's to all the docs I've had who have always been great about giving me copies, before & since HIPAA!

Just bought some antibiotics and cough medicine (with some acetaminophen) for a child in India. Total cost: $1.25. No scripts, just a quick doctor consult. Healthcare doesn’t need to be THIS cheap, but it sure as hell doesn’t need to be US expensive either.

We must make the system easier for patients. Over 30 hours spent this week trying to get my IVIG treatment reapproved by insurance (been on it for 9 years). Also, they said that it takes 72 hours to get an urgent request in the queue -relies on FAXES. 72 hours is urgent????

CMS submitted the FY21 hospital inpatient payment rule to OMB for review yesterday. Will be interesting to see whether any suggestions from recent RFIs (eg on interoperability, patient matching, clinician burden, EHR safety, etc) are incorporated.
