I've always assumed that the lack of social services and medicine forced people to care for each other slightly more, whereas in the UK I assume youre gonna be fine either way. Perhaps in britain people feel free to not have to be nice. Is that a freedom? Look I'm tired okay

I started thinking this when I went to Europe and everywhere with better healthcare than Britain had a lot of really rude people, and as we know, correlation is causation

i'm a small white lady so my experiences are definitely skewed re: america, but yes. people there do often seem much friendlier and nicer and willing to help.

As with everything in NYC, you can't let the stuff that actually rises above the signal-to-noise ratio (like the Park Slope jerks yelling from their windows) speak for the entire city. The people here have been wonderful.
