The hatred towards many on this platform towards "blue check marks" is some of the weirdest resentment I've seen.

If it were simply verification, the hate would be less reasonable, but Twitter has tried to have its cake and eat it too, opaquely granting special privillages to bluechecks (autobans for cursing at them, for a while) and pulling verification on viewpoint grounds.

It's poor private governance on Twitter's part, but as the beneficiaries of this muddled policy, verified users come off as a sort of illigitimate elite caste.

Bluechecks are also inherently less trustworthy because they're not anonymous. Their ideas are a product of social pressure rather than independent thought.
