Just thinking about Jewish identity vs. White identity. It would be easy most of the time for most US Jews to think of themselves as white and basically assimilate. Most aren't even that religious. This is not so possible for Asians, Blacks, etc.

Whatever lingering discrimination & exclusion notwithstanding, Jews can count themselves as lucky. On the one hand they may assimilate & integrate into universal institutions without much challenge, on the other hand they still can enjoy a special ethnic identity & community...

I don't mind the idea of making people choose one if the identities are incompatible
-
This is a VERY interesting question. What exactly does compatible mean? Is it enough to generally get along and accede to shared consensus norms? Or is it a problem when people do that, but they also feel an extra kinship to those sharing sub-tribal experiences & identity?
-
I can hardly begrudge any unconscious bias that Jews have for their fellows. It's only natural to feel comfortable and have more automatic connection among those who've shared familiar experiences. Maybe like Yalies having a special kinship with other fellow Yalies?
