In fact, I think we see that a lot. A substantial percentage of people with Jewish ancestry are marrying white non-Jews and generally thinking of themselves as white. This leaves behind a remnant population that may increasingly define itself in contrast to whites.

It's selection in favor of separate Jewish identity as the more marginally attached simply leave and think of themselves as white.

The whole "Jews aren't white" meme isn't totally accurate, imo. I'd say some are and some aren't
-
Whatever lingering discrimination & exclusion notwithstanding, Jews can count themselves as lucky. On the one hand they may assimilate & integrate into universal institutions without much challenge, on the other hand they still can enjoy a special ethnic identity & community...
-
I don't mind the idea of making people choose one if the identities are incompatible
-
This is a VERY interesting question. What exactly does compatible mean? Is it enough to generally get along and accede to shared consensus norms? Or is it a problem when people do that, but they also feel an extra kinship to those sharing sub-tribal experiences & identity?
-
I can hardly begrudge any unconscious bias that Jews have for their fellows. It's only natural to feel comfortable and have more automatic connection among those who've shared familiar experiences. Maybe like Yalies having a special kinship with other fellow Yalies?

Jews are as genetically distinct from whites as turks and middle easternes are. So its not really a good argument in my opinion.
-
iirc they're closer than Turks and other middle easterners

I’d say it’s more complicated, and in any case, I’ve seen too many 1/4 Jews, who identify as white, until some actual instance of white advocacy crops up, like immigration, and they are full Jew. Same with wars for Israel. Their assimilation is parasitic, in too many cases.

This is true. Many Ashkenazi Jews think of their families as having come “from Poland” or “from Hungary,” etc. That gives them a claim to European heritage — which is easily conflated with white heritage, especially in the absence of relgious interest.
