This makes me wonder who the crazier people were: the witches or the witch burners. The "witches" themselves were probably mostly weird or mentally ill older women who got on people's nerves. The burners were delusional and/or power hungry and/or vindictive.

Kind of like lynching? My hot take on that? Many of them were probably guilty and deserved it. We will not have this victim blaming in the Current Year!

Lynching was usually based on a violent crime. Witch burning might have been more about someone being simply annoying.

Laws & crimes are one thing, but we've also completely lost our ability to deal with norm violations, hardly any risk shame or sanction. Asocial behavior pushes way beyond consensus norms, but because of "non-discrimination" they ruin the public sphere & shred the social fabric.

Unfortunately we route all of our dealing with norm violations through the court system and fear of litigation now.
