A lot of this is also related to increasing land prices and population. Boy Scout camps that used to be out in the woods are now right next to new housing developments.

It's not just tech, it's the fact that all extracurricular activities take up 5x the time they did 20 years ago. Travelling baseball and club soccer are year round, expensive as hell, and require enormous amounts of travel. Kids have time for only 1 thing now, it's a big problem.
-
Good point
-
I know parents who have spent upwards of $40k a year on travelling sports. It's insane. Kids no longer have fun in sports and the pressure put on them is immense because parents see it as an investment for college scholarships. No time for anything like boy scouts at all.
-
Yeah that's nuts. In general, most kids are so much more overscheduled today than 30 years ago.
-
Parents schedule play time for their kids now too. And people wonder why these kids aren't prepared for life on their own.

Doesn't that present them an opportunity? I presume there are a lot of parents who would like their kids to get more outdoor time
-
Kids just want to play their video games
-
Tis true, a level of engagement that's hard to match.

My neighbourhood is surrounded by forest. But I donʼt do much more than walk to the local lake.

“Scouting” will be about preparing girls and boys for their cubicle job or prison.
