Many of our main complaints can be described as wanting freedom from interference, and many of the reductions in freedom we observe are attempts to deal with diversity. America has shifted more and more away from founding principles of leaving each other alone.

I oppose censorship and restrictions on "hate speech"; I understand that violent crime destroys freedom; I believe in freedom of association; I don't want HOAs telling me what color I can paint my house;

I don't want to pay high taxes to fund military adventures in the middle east; I don't want to be forced to attend diversity seminars or be subject to liability for choosing the best people for a job. Really I would like to be left alone.

mayb so twitter is bad for nuance. there is something to be said for a better classification of 'freedom'. the mere negative freedom of modern America is deeply irritating to the soul. a nation with excellent capabilities is far preferable.

Exactly. Libertarians, etc. generally do not grasp the difference between strong govt and extensive govt. A king can bring order and exercise a strong hand within his legitimate yet limited sphere. A democratic govt can ineptly insert itself into every area of life

"Victimless vice/crime" stems from a degenerate morality stemming from rights, and the infringement thereof. This results in "do as you will so long as it harm no one", which results in multiple tragedies of the commons. A positive morality stemming from upholding of -

- duties to others places the onus on the offender, rather than a victim, such that yes, it is a crime even when no one is looking. Freedom to do as thou wilt is merely slavery to the appetite.
