Nirvana, as it turns out, wasn’t the “voice of generation-x” even if Cobain was touted as such at the time. He jumped ship too early. What rock band ultimately spoke for Gen-X? Who, ironically, became the last generation where such a question could be posed.

I’m going to argue Green Day, who picked up where Nirvana left off with their nihilistic apathy, wrote “American Idiot” when Gen-X became Fox News/George W woke, and turned it into a broadway play for the aging gen-xer who wants to see a show but still feel cool.
