Nirvana, as it turns out, wasn’t the “voice of generation-x” even if Cobain was touted as such at the time. He jumped ship too early. What rock band ultimately spoke for Gen-X? Who, ironically, became the last generation where such a question could be posed.

Aside from Black, Ten bores me. That said, Ten may lay better claim to Soundtrack of a Generation. Pearl Jam's more acoustical stuff has held up far better IMO.
