Exactly. It's like saying Souter wasn't a reliable leftist vote because he was appointed by George H.W. Bush. It's always the Republican appointees that "evolve" left on the bench.

I think it's a little more genuine than that. Consider the disintegration of libertarianism: people really believed in classical liberalism, but the new left confronted them with real challenges. Many went left in response, and those who went right needed a whole new set of

facts and values (red pills). Don't underestimate the left as an effective response to Reagan-style conservatism. Similarly, today I would not be too surprised to see at some point a judge start out more on the left but then get redpilled.
