The Bush v Gore case and the 2000 election fallout in general is under-recognized as the beginning of our national divorce. People forgot about it after 9/11 but the war really started there.

Yep. Also 2000 was when the dotcom bubble popped. 2000 was when a lot of tech dreams died. Ever since then tech has been much more about code than physical things.

The 90's caught a cold in November of 2000 and it progressed into pneumonia, finally killing the patient on 9/11/2001.
