From personal observations of the 80s through today, I pick 2000 as a clear turning point. 1965, 1913, and various other dates may also be valid though.

Why 1965?
-
Immigration act, just after the civil rights act, beginning of crime wave
-
Immigration Act sounds terrible but Civil Rights Act was good
-
It may sound good, but it wasn't
-
Why not?
-
It was terrible for white people and resulted in thousands of additional murder deaths. It was anti-freedom and resulted in government examination of all aspects of association.
-
It wasn’t terrible for white people it was good for black people
-
Thousands of additional murders is definitely terrible

Don't we get a "Since 1776" option?
-
I guess I didn't think of it as the US until the constitution.
-
“Post-Articles of Confederation” is the only answer worth giving
-
Those were replaced in 1789 by the constitution.
-
For some reason, I always mis-remember the year as 1787, not sure why.
-
Well the constitutional convention was in 1787
-
I think that’s what’s doing it. I’ve always been terrible with dates & times of events. I tend to remember the “why”,“how”,“what” a lot easier than the exact “when”

The West as a whole has been suffering from a serious illness since 1100 or so. America's decline is a symptom of America, which itself is a symptom of the underlying disease.
-
If you ask me "When and where would you most want to live?", I'd have to say 1900s America is a great option. Not sure I'd like 1100, so it's hard to say there's been decline since then. Of course, that's not exactly the same question.

If someone gets a slow-growing but deadly cancer when they're 11 years old, and it kills them by the time they're 21, but they achieve nearly their full height, are they growing up or getting sick?
-
both
-
Indeed.
