It's not so much false as misleading. Federal inmates represent like 10% of all prison inmates. People are in state prisons for violence. The overwhelming majority are in state prisons. The Feds aren't prosecuting the brother slanging sacks at the corner store though.

Oh Is that actually true for federal prison (I'd be surprised)? I know people have that misconception about state prisons.

I personally know someone who did 7 years in the fed pen when the cops found heroin in his car after a car accident. He wouldn’t rat out his dealer so they put him away. Sweet guy, great musician, not violent, just needed treatment. This stuff still happens sometimes
