Before apartheid ended, people truly believed that whites would be fine and that the multicultural rainbow nation would be a success. For a while after 1994, the economic numbers improved enough that this was plausible despite the massive crime wave.

3. Even blacks in South Africa are not better off as the economic situation looks increasingly precarious. South Africa is following the Zimbabwe path. 4. Western leaders & the media are not willing say anything negative South Africa because it destroys the progressive narrative

I disagree because I don't think they are that fragile. The Progressive narrative is plastic; it can always point to some other real or feigned variable, or some other case of success, or some possibility for future success.
