Sure, if you magically make guns disappear, you get less gun crime. We don't live in that world. In the real world, it's not even clear that more gun control reduces gun crime. If you're going to argue, prove to me that what you want improves the four criteria above.

I don't even come to the gun control issue with much prior opinion either way. I don't particularly like guns. I just want the best combination of fewer shootings, lower costs, and self-defense abilities.

Availability of guns doesn't really seem to be a factor considering the history of the second amendment. Something in last 2-3 decades changed about the population with this free access to guns.
