Buyback is probably a good idea, since blacks’ low time preference means they’ll probably take the quick cash, if it’s enticing enough (combined with, say, mandatory minimum of life sentence if caught possessing an illegal gun past a certain date).

A big problem, though, is states like Indiana that are ostensibly conservative on guns but allow black women from Chicago to buy guns for their boyfriends... repealing Article IV section II of the constitution I think would be the most radical option (and good elsewhere too!)
-
That’s mostly for handguns, though, and is hard as long as we’ve got the 14th amendment... ideally we want a technically race blind background check that ends up excluding most blacks, combined with obvious carrots and sticks that induce them to give up their guns
-
This is all quite sensible. However, there are still the Paddocks and Columbines out there, and this won't do anything about those sorts of cases. I don't really have an answer for those.
-
Me neither. But, as NRx types, we can dispense with the idea of a natural right to be armed... so I’d say guns should work more like rental cars, ie if you’re young you better have a clean record and money
-
Wouldn’t stop Paddock. But a serious attempt to remove illegal guns combined with 100x more stringent rules for < 26 (or so) purchasers would help... I’d say under 26s should need completely clean criminal record, credit score > 700, and maybe a $5k deposit (recoverable when 26)

Sounds like a pretty good idea actually. Really target your restrictions to higher crime demographics.
-
Exactly. And this is one of those issues where there’s a real opportunity with Trump... just as a lot of right wing normies didn’t really think Iraq could become a democracy, many don’t really think anyone should have a gun... huge untapped market!
