Today, selection is much more about differential fertility. Selection has become much more about: 1. Which women are bearing the most babies, and 2. Which sperm is impregnating those women.

It wasn't always like this because merely bearing the most babies was not always optimal due to death rates. #1 is mostly about women's choices and options these days, and it varies widely by country.

What's really important about all of this is that if you want a nice, sustainable society with traditional families, advancing tech, and high resources per person, you'd better make sure you're selecting for it. Currently we're not.
