What's going to turn it around this time? Things aren't looking good right now.

I'm not going to make any predictions about the 2018 or 2020 elections now because I think things could go either way, but I am becoming increasingly concerned that the shitlibbery is continuing to rise despite Trump. It may take real hardship before it turns around.

1970s were actually the extreme high for pozz, there was a huge push for polyamory, drug use, homosexuality & even normalization of pedophilia. Emergence of HIV & satanic child sexual abuse scandals responsible for a big pushback.
-
In terms of actual communism I understand the 1968 Soviet repression of reformists in Czechoslovakia very badly weakened its cultural cachet in the West
-
Judging by university histories, it looks like incidents peaked in the late 60s. Nixon coincided with a decline in shitlibbery overall as far as I can tell.
-
I think elite shitlibbery peaked in 1972; popular shitlibbery in 1968.

My own personal estimate based on my observations.

probably worth distinguishing students from teachers, and principles from strategy
-
60s activists were heavily centered on the students (many conservative professors still) and thought some form of violent revolution might be imminent currently faculty is further left, principles more radical but strategy is "normal" activism
-
(other big difference is expansion of higher ed thru affirmative action and lower standards for dumb/mentally ill)
-
I don't disagree with this summary, but important to realize that the 50s were incredibly liberal even in some ways by 2010s standards (the degree of belief in the power/capacities of the state alone was crazy relative to today.)
-
right, it's complicated because "having a gosplan" is now considered extreme b/c it's empirically absurd rather than ideologically radical
-
world government is another one that had far higher approval in immediate aftermath of yalta

Total failure of the McGovern campaign. Yeah; reaction to high crime was a big part of it. Also, the end of the Vietnam War.
