There are definitely some ways Trump could have stuck to his guns. No amnesty, no budget deal without a wall, etc. But Trump is pressured by polls, media, big business, and the GOP establishment, and some of this is a calculation about popular support. https://twitter.com/PaleHominid/status/950842668229242880 …

You're giving him too much credit. He's largely ceded governing to Ryan and McConnell and as long as he feels like he won something then he's happy. Facts only piss him off.

Your view is basically wrong. He's limited, and he's trying to make deals. He hasn't just ceded governing.

Again you're giving him too much credit. He hasn't come up with a coherent ideology of what he wants his presidency to be, and he doesn't care enough to. Absent that he just mostly goes along with whatever Congress decides and makes bold statements that are impotent.

The man is not an idiot, despite what the media would have you think. His ideology is not extremely consistent, but it's not completely random either. It's more consistent than most pols. He has been consistently in favor of American manufacturing and jobs for decades.

Congress didn't force him to not repeal NAFTA or not repeal DACA and they haven't made him get into pointless twitter fights that kill him in the polls while demoralizing his supporters and alienating the middle.

The Twitter fights haven't actually done much to him. You're buying the media crap here. As for DACA and NAFTA, that's all about the polling. If it were just 60% in favor of DACA, he wouldn't do it. All presidents are like this.

Don't fall into the trap where you start believing that everything the media says is a lie or that all polls are false. Obviously they're trying to take Trump down, but there is a huge constituency of Americans who like his policies but are repulsed by his unpresidential behavior

It's not that I don't believe the polls, but the "unprofessional" meme is entirely manufactured
