Now even thought the terms are supposedly separate, it can be hard to tell whether people are talking about "sex" or "gender" because the terms male and female are used for each. This confusion is on purpose, of course. They want to get people confused about what "sex" means.

If people really want to separate sex and gender into "biological sex" and "a person's mental state about their biological sex", that would be ok except for the fact that people aren't clear about which one they're talking about most of the time.

The result is a discussion like the chromosome one I retweeted earlier. "There are two genders, xx and xy" "Actually chromosomes don't determine gender etc". The whole discussion is dumb.

(For the reasons yeyo stated.) Chromosomes do determine sex Sex does almost always determine which sex people feel like Yes, there are a few cases where people either feel like another sex or where sex itself is less obvious.
