Second, it only worked because of a concerted national anti-Moore campaign. This is impossible to pull off in a major election year because there are too many candidates to smear, can only be done in limited cases or the presidential run (Trump should be prepping)...

Third, 10x the spending is impossible to keep up for any extended length of time or for multiple elections. Moore was a loss for Trumpism but is not indicative of anything long-term except a new Democrat strategy of personal destruction...

The real lesson to be learned is that every Trumpist candidate needs to have a defence ready for when the inevitable (probably false or exaggerated) accusations of sexual misconduct come...

The obvious defence is to strike first. Find unverifiable accusations to lob at your opponents before he lobs. Then if Dems counterattacks laugh it off as a desperate ploy to distract from his accusations. A sexual misconduct arms race seems a likely outcome of the Moore race...

A third defence is genuine contrition. Assuming the accusations were true, Moore could have coasted past everything but the 14-year-old with "I committed some sins in my youth, God and my wife have forgiven me, I ask Alabamans to do the same." Genuineness would be key here...

Most of the accusations were nothing and nobody would have cared had it not been for the 14yo he allegedly touched. While it was minor consensual touch (that would have been nothing if she was 18), it was technically illegal and within the range where people could call pedophile.

Just enough "ick" factor that people will react to it. The rest of the accusations were simply to boost the apparent credibility of the 14yo.

Pedophile is a real stretch for that, and people shouldn't be so dumb about it. Teens are attractive, and it would be better not to pretend otherwise

Not that whatever it is alleged he did was totally ok, but just not as bad as people made it sound
