He says it's not a "major issue" - to *him*. Fair enough. But if you believe - rightly or wrongly - that your candidate lost because of Russian involvement on your opponent's side, why would you *not* see it as anything other than a "major issue"? That's not irrational, is it?
Chomsky was making that point that it's tiny compared to how nation-states (esp the US) interfere constantly. But my point was that one can favor better relations w/Russia without being a Kremlin spy or sympathizer with their ideology.
Completely 100% agree on both those points but would add again: re the election last year, if my candidate has lost to someone maybe helped by Russia, I wouldn't be ok with it just because the US had done similar things in the past. That wouldn't make it OK or tolerable. Right?
Definitely would not make it OK. But I would hope the context would affect how one characterizes it & the responses advocated. Also, I'd hope one would denounce interference when done *by* one's side, not just to one's side.
Again, I fully agree with all of that. But doesn't change the overall point: Dems, if they believe - and intel agencies/media reporting seems to suggest - that Russians helped Trump win, have every right to complain about it, context aside. I know I would, in their position.
There is literally zero evidence that Russian influence tipped the election.
