My question is who and why at Google would they spend time on this? Like who is sitting in a meeting and comes up with this stuff.

Like, "hey guys I think it would be great if we scrubbed search results for white couples to make them black" "OK i will get my team on it"
-
Or, "famous Europeans are white and that's a problem so let's pretend some black guys invented everything and change the searches" "Great!"
-
The real issue here is that black people complain about some bad algorithm, and it's immediately changed, while these bad results for white-related searches have been there for years
-
Makes sense now. Thanks!

There are good reasons the Google algorithm produced those results. Take "American inventors": people would often refer to "african american inventors", so the former search would pull up a lot of black results. Similar things going on w/ "white couple"
-
"european people history" probably has something to do with a book cover/title/description, at least in some of the initial results. The big picture of this is that when white people search for people they generally don't include ethnicity, while nonwhites do many racial searches
-
So you think this is just an artifact rather than curated ?
-
Yes.
