Oh boy I have a lot to say about this. My conversations were with academic libs back then when the privilege meme really got going. I said, "guys, don't you want everyone to be privileged?" and "shouldn't we be working on uplifting the underprivileged?" but...

they were too focused on tearing down others rather than trying to work together for the common good. I told them the whole approach was very hostile and would turn people against them, but they didn't care. And now we're seeing the results with the alt-right etc

But we need to be careful about making sure any solutions don't end up making life worse overall. And thus there is much to investigate about what really is optimal, and many unpopular conclusions to be made.
