Big law exists to funnel money to lawyers. The big corporations would rather not have to pay them so much.
The whole system of long briefs and responses is just horribly inefficient, and 99% of lawyer time is spent on completely meaningless crap

it's meaningless crap, but the meaningless crap results from poor statutes. laywers job is to promote efficient conformity

a lawsuit is just a non-violent means of restitution. replacing murder/theft/etc has to be complicated
