Slavery screwed over the white working class by undercutting their wages, and now immigration does the same thing.
If land is so cheap that anyone can start a farm, why hire people rather than working your own land? What about the yeoman farmer ideal?

Also, if the next guy over is using slave labor and you're not, the prices for your farmed goods will be undercut

Cause u can be more productive if u have slaves
-
Sure, and then you undercut the value of your neighbor's labor
-
I agree with both of u slavery did screw over the white working class but also there was so much land that every white man had access 2it
-
Increasing the need for slaves to make productive use of the land
-
The land doesn't need to be worked, but the farmers do need to sell the fruits (even just to each other). If the guy next door uses slave

labor, he fucks you over even if there's plenty of land.
-
Was there any farms in the south that didn't use slave labor
