Fairness was always important to me, and any tribalism seemed entirely unfair. Why wouldn't you treat everyone equally?

In high school, I always sat with the Asians, maybe because they didn't have much of a tribe at my school either.
-
Eventually it became clear to me that others were operating with different conceptions of fairness, and I couldn't make others be non-tribal.

If everyone else is going to act tribal, then you're just going to get fucked unless you also tribe-up.
-
(that said, I still don't have much of an IRL tribe, given modern American atomization and my preferring to be with my family)

I was the same way growing up (and still). I care about my tribe primarily because (((other people))) hate me for being born into it.
