No other commonly used tax comes close to the paperwork and psychological burden of the income tax.

And remember, the United States didn't even bother with an income tax to fund its operations for over 100 years. It worked out fine.

Couple it with a flat payment to everyone, and it starts to get appealing for the lower and middle classes.

Increase land taxes and maybe even wealth or estate tax if you need more $. Income tax should only be a last resort
