Pushing kids to go into STEM fields is a very bad idea, for a number of reasons.
At least they might get a job if they go into engineering. Can't say that about studying history.

Either they will fail out of engineering, or become a bad engineer who builds broken things. Neither outcome is good.
-
Engineering is non-linear. The outcome is often determined by the weakest component or person.

Of course there's a high correlation between interest and ability, and someone uninterested in engineering is unlikely to be good enough
-
So in that sense pushing into STEM may mislead kids. People who hate it and who suck at math are better off elsewhere, like massage therapy
-
Yeah, I think there are plenty of jobs outside STEM. The left wants to colonize STEM bc it is high status.
-
I don't think there are plenty of jobs anywhere, though, but STEM seems like a slightly safer route in general.
-
Thinking about your kids? How is your son, btw? Did he recover fully?
-
My kids don't need to worry about this for a while. The injured one is recovering.
