I would argue that is not coincidental. You sense that our current elites are not building for the long-term.

I think it's entirely consistent to say that when a king is chosen (or Duke or Baron) a long-term view is a requirement.

That is, after all, one of the main benefits of such concentration of power: multi-generational goals.
