I can agree re market of govts, but at least with options and competition the overall trend should be toward better governments

Ah, the problem is one of "capture." That is, governments appoint themselves arbiters of what is good and bad.

Yeah. The NRx hack amounts to, "Okay, what if the special interest that captured govt was the interest of the nation?"

It won't be, but if the elites are enlightened and have a long-term perspective, it will be a closer approximation.

Well, and this is crucial: elites are more likely to think of the nation as "theirs" if their rule is secure.

I think recognizing this is, while subtle, a game-changer. Rental mindset applies not just to housing but to countries.
