It really bothers me that leftists not only don't understand Trump & the alt-right at all, but also they refuse to even try to understand.
-
-
I've been encountering this with my parents, in particular. They're too filled with hate for Trump to even consider any opposing viewpoints.
-
Issues that I've tried with them: Hillary & war with Russia Excess population growth w/Hillary & environmental consequences Immig & wages
-
Most progressives still think that the right is still all about Christian cultural conservatism plus tax cuts for corporate interests.
-
They can't see that the left has become the party of all racial grievance all the time, and they can't see that the right is changing too.
-
For example, just look at where the corporate interests lie today. This is a pretty dramatic change from the 80s and 90s.

Try using Haidt's TED video, maybe it'll help them understand their own dynamics
-
Haidt's video is reactionary in a way and the audience doesn't even know it, he clearly states heiarchy is good for civilization
-
Haidt's book The Righteous Mind is quite good. Lots to chew on.pic.twitter.com/eHqZzEzOHK

There are people who were there and now are here, believe me. Sometimes the seeds take years to sprout.

Personally I considered myself on the left for many years until I realized that the left didn't believe what

I thought they did
