Let's say you have a smart white 16 year old son. 1500 or so on the SAT, good grades, interest in science & computers. What advice for him?

Is MIT likely w/ 1500 on SATs? Maybe CalTech or Harvey Mudd would be same high quality w/ less competition.
-
Caltech is traditionally harder to get into than MIT. I'm not sure whether you need a 1550-1600 these days or not
-
Anyway, I just meant check the stats and look for high-yield alternatives.
-
yes, and it is often better to go to a place with somewhat easier competition

seems reasonable. It may still be possible to avoid most of the poz at places like MIT, Caltech, Harvey Mudd, etc
-
groupthink is just as bad at MIT as it is at Dartmouth
-
I'm not convinced of this, given the demographics of the alt-right. But if it's true, that's sad.
