my image of the UK in the 70s-80s is Monty Python, Margaret Thatcher, Dr. Who, the royal family, etc.

add in the 3-day week, lots of IRA bombs, riots, and strikes, and you're close. Also The Goodies were way more popular than Python.

it petered out in the 80s and was revived around 2010 as the BBC's flagship drama (rather than the cheap kids' show it used to be)
